• • It takes around 7 days for the generic Truvada to become fully effective in preventing HIV infection during anal receptive sex. Tenof-EM may reach its maximum effective levels after 21 days in the cases of receptive vaginal sex or drug injections. There are not sufficient data regarding the effectiveness levels reached during insertive anal or vaginal sex. You must be tested HIV-negative to be able to take Tenof-EM. This medicine is not supposed to treat bacterial or fungal infections. It is advised to wear condoms for protecting yourself against bacterial STIs, including chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. Although Tenof-Em is very effective in preventing HIV, it can not be used to protect against other viruses, including HPV or herpes.

• • For HIV-negative adults and adolescents weighing at least 35Kgs, it is recommended to take one pill daily. For people having either kidney problems, or having a creatinine clearance (CrCL) of less than 60 mL/min, Tenof-Em is not recommended. It is necessary to take the medicine as directed without missing or skipping a dose for maximum benefits. In case you forgot to take a dose, you should take it as soon as possible. You should take guidance from your doctor in case you are frequently missing your doses. An alarm or pillbox can be used to keep a track of your regimen.

• • You should swallow a Tenof-EM pill with a glass of water with or without food. You are not supposed to crush or chew your pill. Make sure that you have an adequate amount of PrEP in hand to meet your required schedule. Missing PrEP doses can increase the risk of HIV infection.

• • You should inform your doctor about any medical condition you may have or any medicine that you might be consuming including prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, or herbal supplements before starting PrEP.

• • You should monitor or check your kidney and bone mineral density regularly while or before starting PrEP. You must inform your doctor if you experience any unusual muscle pain, shortness of breath, fast heartbeat, or yellowing of the eyes or skin. Tenof-EM can also lead to the worsening of hepatitis B infection. It is required to get tested for hepatitis B before starting PrEP medication. An HIV test should also be conducted before starting PrEP therapy. In cases of an active HIV or hepatitis B infection, you should not start taking generic Truvada.

• • Tenof-EM will not protect you from other sexually transmitted infections like gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis. You must use condoms while taking PrEP for maximum protection against infections. If you are allergic to any ingredient of Tenof-EM, you should refrain from consuming it. You should inform your doctor about liver problems, kidney problems, or bone problems before starting PrEP. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should also consult with their doctors before starting PrEP. Generally, Tenof-EM can be safe for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
